Dr Ashley Deans, Director of the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, IA, recently presented an overview of the powerful and successful presentation on Consciousness-Based Education that he has given in over 40 countries.

In speaking with and to education leaders the world over, Dr Deans says he has experienced, 'an overwhelmingly positive reception.' Following is a summary of his presentation:

Consciousness-Based Education unfolds the inner genius of every student that is completely lacking in education today. Instead of just the known—the subject being studied—this system of education includes the knower and the process of knowing, using all five senses, as well. Kindergarten children want to know everything; but in modern education, by the age of 16, many students have lost that desire. He also explained how modern education creates fragmented brain development through incomplete education.

Dr Deans said that teachers were very enthusiastic when he explained how Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme develops creativity, receptiveness, high intelligence, and all the qualities that describe a great student. He presented the NBC Today Show about a Detroit school in which the students learned the technique, and its practical results and values. Citing results of some of the over 600 scientific studies completed in 250 universities and research institutions in over 30 countries, he then presented and explained the knowledge of how the Unified Field, which has been discovered by modern science as underlying all the Laws of Nature, is clearly the most fundamental level of existence. 'If we can locate the Unified Field at the finest level of objective knowledge,' he pointed out, 'we can locate the Unified Field from the subjective level as well, through Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique, and experience pure consciousness, pure awareness at the source of thought—the source of Nature's intelligence, and the source of total knowledge in the Unified Field.

'The goal of education should be to unfold the infinite creative intelligence of every child on earth,' Dr Deans continued. He then presented the total brain research of Dr Fred Travis of Maharishi University of Management, showing enlivenment of the brain's frontal cortex, the deep rest indicated by the less active thalamus during the practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique, and the whole brain coherence of long-time practitioners not just during the practice, but even when completing a computer task.

Dr Deans emphasized that Consciousness-Based Education is stress-free education for students, teachers, and parents, noting that stress leads to 90% of diseases and illnesses. He also explained that during Yogic Flying, students gain the ability to think from the fundamental level of Transcendental Consciousness, and that the whole brain is most coherent when the body lifts off the ground. Noting that this coherence will affect everything in the environment from accident and crime rates to hospital admissions, he explained how the square root of one percent of the nation's population, practising Maharishi's TM-Sidhi Programme, can reduce the stress level of the whole country. He cited the way that worldwide terrorism decreases when 8,000 Yogic Flyers practise the technique together.

In the United States, 20 schools are now utilising Consciousness-Based Education, funded by the Dr David Lynch Foundation; and schools the world over, notably in South America, are following suit.
