Dr Bevan Morris on Education for Enlightenment - Part 1

Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, and President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, USA, addressed a global Press Conference last week on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's principles of Education for Enlightenment.
Dr Morris emphasized the point that modern education develops only part of the brain because of its fragmented approach—students study only isolated facts and therefore only enliven specific parts of the brain, never the total brain. Consequently, the student's creative potential and intelligence is never fully developed.
Discoveries in this area have shown that the prevailing system of education throughout the world is no longer acceptable, as it prevents the total utilization of the brain. And this inadequate, incomplete, and harmful education is the cause of all stress, strain, and problems in the world.
According to Dr Morris, there is only one experience which awakens total brain development, and that is the direct experience of the Unified Field described by modern quantum physics as the fundamental level of Natural Law in the universe.
'When you give to your students the gift of Consciousness-Based Education,' he said—'when they come to school, before they start to study the different subjects, they will sit comfortably and close their eyes. And they will begin to practise a simple technique called Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation. As they begin to practise Transcendental Meditation the students will experience their thinking process becoming finer and finer, settling down to much less excited levels of mental activity, until the mind settles down completely to a state where the consciousness is completely silent. This is a very delightful experience of inner bliss and peace for every student who experiences it,' Dr Morris said.
Just practising like this for even 20 minutes before they begin class, and 20 minutes at the end of the day, has a powerful effect for the transformation of the life of the student. What they are experiencing is Transcendental Consciousness, which is beyond the normal waking, sleeping, and dreaming states of consciousness. This is a new level of consciousness, a fourth state of consciousness, which has been identified by scientists as a unique state of the physiology, of profound 'restful alertness'.
The result of this experience is to create 'the most extraordinarily coherent and harmonious state of brain functioning, combining deep silence with dynamic activity,' Dr Morris said. 'This is the awakening of total brain functioning.'
This development of total brain functioning, and corresponding development of higher states of consciousness, is seen in a number of different changes in the quality of life of the student—changes which are delightful to the student, to teachers, and to parents, Dr Morris said. First of all, from this level of the Unified Field, the students' creativity and intelligence manifestly increases. And their energy and vitality, in addition, because they are functioning from the basic field which is the basic level of all the laws of nature.
They start to function spontaneously, and more in harmony with all the laws of nature. They stop violating the laws of nature—that is, they don't make mistakes as much as before. Their life, therefore, becomes free of problems, the result of the mistakes that young people make. Their life is more joyful and successful. They also experience rising good fortune. Because they are functioning at the level of the Unified Field, they are able to engage the managing intelligence of the universe more and more to support their activities and achieve success in life.
These are the results of the rising quality of brain functioning, and the rising quality of consciousness of the student, and this what is meant by 'enlightenment', Dr Morris explained.
