3 May 2007
On 3 May 2007 Ottumwa Courier reported:
The tennis team of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, USA upheld its reputation for talent and good sportsmanship at a recent tournament with Ottumwa. MSAE's head coach, Lawrence Eyre, as well as one of his top players, Devon Jarvis, credited the team's success to the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
Coach Eyre, who has been MSAE's head coach for 20 seasons, is quoted as saying that Transcendental Meditation has significantly helped his players. 'Our guys have tended to remain composed. I think it's because they get rid of their stress twice a day [through TM]. It dissolves the strain and fatigue.'
'The fact that we meditate helps us deal with frustration during the match. It keeps your mind more at peace,' Jarvis is quoted as saying.
The Ottumwa Courier stated that 'Jarvis was just part of talented Fairfield Maharishi (MSAE) contingent that blanked Ottumwa 11-0 at Dan Staggs Courts on Monday. MSAE won eight sets by a score of 6-0. MSAE head coach Lawrence Eyre—a Yale graduate—breeds state title winners.'
The Ottumwa Courier also reported that MSAE's team is appreciated for its good sportsmanship. The article stated that although Ottumwa head coach Alan Paris 'didn't experience the success he would have wished, win or lose, it's still a pleasure to take on Eyre's MSAE squad.'
'They play good honest tennis and I enjoy playing his teams. They're a lot of fun,' coach Paris is quoted as saying.
