Easing the academic pressure on children in school through Consciousness-Based Education - Part I

In the Global Press Conference on 14 March, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, President of Maharishi University of Management, and Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, answered a parent's question about how Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Education will ease the concern and pressure of parents on their children to work hard and get the best grades in order to get into the best schools, colleges, and universities.

It is very natural for any parent to want the best for their children, Dr Morris said, but what Maharishi has revealed to us at this time is that the best that a child can have is to use the total brain potential with which they are born.

The kind of education into which parents are pushing their children with ever greater intensity does not have the effect of totally developing the brain, said Dr Morris. 'In fact it has the effect of leaving multiple 'holes' in the brain, by creating a lack of any real foundation for the success of the child in their life.'

'So while seeking to create more success for their child, they are actually reducing the child's chances,' Dr Morris said.

'By contrast, Consciousness-Based Education has as its principle feature the technique of transcending to experience the holistic and unified state of consciousness, Transcendental Consciousness, the child's own Self,' explained Dr Morris. 'Know thy Self', is fulfilled by this system of education.'

This experience of the unified, holistic state of the consciousness of anyone is the only experience that has been found to maximize the use of the total brain. It creates highly coherent and orderly brain functioning, said Dr Morris, and it creates holistic brain functioning in which the whole brain begins to function together.

'The basis of all creativity, the basis of all rising intelligence, all the ability to make the laws of nature move to support one's desires and achieve anything is based on the use of the total brain,' Dr Morris said.

'So in Consciousness-Based Education every child has this joyful, sweet, soft experience first thing in the morning and then again after class, and sometimes in the middle of the day also. This is combined with an academic routine that is not stressful, it is not pressurized,' said Dr Morris.

'When the students study with this more awakened brain, they are able in a much more effortless way to absorb the knowledge. Their container of knowledge has been expanded,' Dr Morris explained, 'They are able to enjoy gaining knowledge, to be enthusiastic to learn, because of this awakening of their total brain—which is to say, the awakening of their creativity, their receptivity, of their intelligence, and of their simple joy of living.'
