During the Global Press Conference on 14 March, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, reported on his current visit to Lake Arrowhead, California, USA where Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country, wrote his first book, Science of Being and Art of Living in 1963.
This book was profoundly influential for many people, Dr Morris said, inspiring them to begin Transcendental Meditation.
Maharishi used to travel up from Los Angeles to this quiet mountain place with beautiful lakes, and he would dictate and edit the words that became the book Science of Being and Art of Living, 44 years ago, said Dr Morris.
'I think just the title of this book tells so much about what Maharishi has done for the human race in over 50 years of his devoted activity for the benefit of all 192 countries and all 6.4 billion people in the world,' Dr Morris said.
Dr Morris explained that Being is that field which is the pure basis of every aspect of the entire universe. Everything is just a flow of that, a motion of that one basic field of Being, or pure consciousness, or the Unified Field, and Maharishi made a science out of that.
'Such a level of knowledge used to be shrouded in the garb of mysticism,' Dr Morris said, 'but Maharishi made it scientific and demanded of modern scientists that they should examine this level of experience, which was the basic experience of the Vedic tradition of India, but common amongst all the great saints and sages throughout the world.'
This infinite field of consciousness, this pure field of Being—everything is just the permutations and combinations of that basic element of creation.
Maharishi said that this is science, because 'this is the experience, it's not a question of philosophy and woolly thinking. It is as concrete, it's more concrete than the experience of one's house or the garden or the sky or the sun. It's the experience of that abstract reality which is the basis of everything,' Dr Morris said.
As the sap permeates the whole tree, Being permeates the whole universe, and it can be experienced through Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques.
So Maharishi made it scientific, Dr Morris said, and working with Dr John Hagelin and others in the long history of his activity, Maharishi has been able to make it clear that this is the supreme science, the science of Being. This Maharishi was saying even from 1963 and before.
'And then the art of living,' said Dr Morris, 'how to live life so that it is lived in the waves of bliss and fulfilment. This is the art of living and it comes from the science of Being.
'If one can systematically gain the experience of the field of Being, which is the field from which the whole creation has come, then one can start to live on that level of higher states of consciousness, where that inner bliss is experienced as being blissful in the waves of behaviour, in the waves of sensory experience, in thought, in the intellect, in the ego. This is how life is lived on the fulfilment of the highest purpose of life—real joy of life in every moment of life'.
'This is what Maharishi wrote about from Lake Arrowhead as he began his great work for the whole human race,' Dr Morris said.
