School basketball players earn post-season honors
The M.U.M. Review Translate This Article
23 April 2006
The Maharishi School girls basketball team lost in the first round of the state tournament to third-ranked Treynor, who eventually went on to play in the championship game.
The girls played a solid game after falling behind in the first quarter and showed that they can play on par with the best teams in the state.
They ended their season with the excellent record of 19-6. It was the first time a Maharishi School basketball team had made it to the prestigious state tournament.
Post-season awards have begun, with standout Sofia Iwobi being named to the first team All-Conference and to the first team All-State by the Iowa Girls Basketball Coaches Association.
Other All-Conference picks were Ami Freeberg, first team, Sheila Higgins, second team, and Bonnie Carter and Dorothy Kern, honorable mention.
For the boys, Justin Heaton was named to the second team All-Conference, and Owen Blake and Steven George received honorable mention.
