'Two weeks ago we witnessed a tremendously successful premiere of the documentary ''Meditation, Creativity, Peace'' by David Lynch,' said Haris Bilalovic, a renowned TV and radio host at Radio and Television of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the only member of the European Broadcasting Union in the country.
Mr Bilalovic has been practising Transcendental Meditation for three years and has recently started pursuing his interests in psychology and consciousness at the C G Jung institute in Zurich, Switzerland. He had a chance to speak with acclaimed film director David Lynch this past summer and both agreed it would be a good idea to screen the film, which was released earlier this year, in the capital city of Sarajevo.
'The premiere took place in the first and one-and-only art house cinema in downtown Sarajevo,' said Mr Bilalovic. The premiere was a great success.
'[The theatre] was full. And when I say full, I mean full. There were no empty seats left. The organizers needed to bring in extra chairs. . . . Our goal was, of course, to be open to everyone. The entrance was free. . . . The cinema hall could host approximately up to 100 people. We had an extra 30 chairs brought in, so 130 people saw the film that evening in Sarajevo.'
In addition to organizing the theatre premiere, Mr Bilalovic was able to arrange for the documentary to be broadcast on national television in Bosnia.
'The success seems to be ongoing,' he said. 'In a popular time slot of BHT1, which is the national TV of Bosnia-Herzegovina, we will see the regional TV premiere of 'Meditation, Creativity, Peace' equipped with subtitles in Bosnian.'
Not only is this the first time the documentary has been played in the region, but it will also be the first time in Europe that a television channel broadcasts the full-length film.
