The Spring Maharishi Gandharva Veda Music Festival, which was held 25 April at a grand hall in Roermond, Holland, attracted a full audience from the local community as well as practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
The concert was a huge success, organizers reported, and was a most enjoyable way to reach out to local citizens and share with them the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
The first artist was 18-year-old pianist Utsav Lal, who has pioneered the piano as the vehicle for the classical Raga. The whole audience was astonished and delighted by the performance. One person wrote, 'We were amazed by the pianist—could not believe such sounds could be created from a piano. Beautiful!'
When the star of the evening, the legendary classical Indian musician Hariprasad Chaurasia, entered he was greeted by a spontaneous standing ovation. He was visibly moved and commented afterwards that this had never happened to him before.
Pandit Hariprasad, a master of the bamboo flute, brought leading tabla player Pandit Vijay Ghate and completely charmed the audience—as reflected in this comment: 'It was a rare privilege to experience these world famous musicians give their utmost—their innermost bliss—in the form of such beautiful sounds! Such a wave of resonating expression rising out of the ocean of deep silence, and returning again carrying all our hearts with it.'
These popular concerts will continue every season. Any city can organize similar concerts, organizers said, and have the joy of celebrating together in the waves of nature's melodies.
