Songwriters to perform at GMDO music festival

Enjoy live music with winners of the 2010 Songwriting Competition sponsored by the Global Mother Divine Organization.* The award ceremony and festivities will be held in Dalby Hall on the campus of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, March 12 at 1:30 p.m.

The competition was open to girls and ladies, who were encouraged to explore the lively expression of creative intelligence through music.

Their compositions show a refreshing degree of originality, joy and appreciation of life. The 36 entrants are all practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation technique.

'We are especially looking forward to the talented young winners from the Ideal Academy Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.,' said a spokesperson.

The school and its visionary principal, Dr. George Rutherford, who introduced the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique into its curriculum, have been featured in national news programs and documentaries, highlighting the remarkable success of the school's programs and students.

'The girls who are coming to the music festival are jumping for joy,' said Rena Boone, master teacher at the Ideal Academy. 'They are so excited about this incredible opportunity.'

Also performing will be local winners Isabel Heaton and Diana Leighton. An honorary achievement award, called the Global Mother Divine Organization Celestial Songwriter Award, will be presented to guest artist Renie Praver, a professional who began singing and songwriting with Donna Warwick in 1974.

Other popular performers will include Maryanne Eagleson, Sheila Moschen, Graciella Zogbi, Ulricka Schroeder, Susan Watterson, and some surprises.

The twelve judges represent a cross-section of musical styles. The winners were invited to perform at the festival. Their songs will also be sent to top meditating professional songwriters, singers, and musicians, aired on the local radio station KHOE, performed at special local assemblies, and heard by a worldwide audience on the Maharishi Channel.
