Conference brings group of Indigenous Grandmothers to campus
The M.U.M. Review Maharishi University of Management, Iowa, USA Translate This Article
21 September 2010
The International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers will be on campus for a conference for women October 1-3, with a public event in the Maharishi Patanjali Golden Dome scheduled for Saturday, October 2.
The group, cosponsored by the Global Mother Divine Organization* and the MUM Women's Institute, will join the women of the MUM community for a conference, 'Restoring Balance: The Indigenous Grandmothers' Call to the Women of the World.'
The grandmothers and other guests from the First Nations will share their perspectives and their cultural traditions and ceremonies, and will highlight the importance of the role of women in bringing balance and harmony to the world.
Five of the grandmothers have learned the Transcendental Meditation technique. They have discovered that the inner experience of transcending is a familiar experience, an essential part of their cultural history, and the basis of their future.
Coming from all corners of the world, the grandmothers first gathered in October 2004. They wrote of their experience:
'We have united as one. Ours is an alliance of prayer, education and healing for our Mother Earth—for all Her inhabitants, for all the children, and for the next seven generations . . . . Our great goal is to unite the hearts of the world.'
According to the conference organizers, the teachings of their ancestors guide the grandmothers in protecting their tribal lands, and in maintaining their cultures and their mother tongues. As a group, they work to safeguard the collective heritage of traditional medicines and to protect natural resources and all life on earth.
Several of the grandmothers have said that, from childhood, they were aware of ancient prophecies that foretold that it would be the nourishing power of women that would support and facilitate a critical transition in the earth's history, a time known as 'the great turning.'
Conference meetings will be held in Dalby Hall Friday evening, Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon and evening. Saturday afternoon, the participants are encouraged to join the community celebration of Invincible America in the Patanjali Golden Dome, where the grandmothers will be honored guests.
