Rabbi discusses how Transcendental Meditation 'makes you a better you, whoever you are'

A Rabbi discusses how his nine-year practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme has made him 'a better practising Jew. It's a technique to make you a better you, whoever you are,' he says.*
He explained that he had heard about Transcendental Meditation (TM) from a good friend who is also a certified Teacher of the technique. 'I was intrigued and wanted to know more, so I watched some videotapes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's lectures,' he said.
He was surprised to find that 'everything Maharishi said was exactly on par with the Torah. I couldn't believe it, not a word was off. This wasn't ''new age'', this is the wisdom of the ages.'
The Rabbi decided to learn Transcendental Meditation about a year later. 'Since then I have practised the technique for 20 minutes in the morning, and 20 minutes in the afternoon. And now looking back over all these years, I can say TM has led me to better prayer, better service, and to be a better Jew. I am more on my path to God than ever. . . .
'I am a practising Orthodox Jew. . . . I only eat Kosher. I wear the right clothes. I am a Sabbath observer. I don't miss anything in my observance. If you ask the essence of me, it's always an Orthodox Jew before anything else.
'For nine years I have practised TM and it's only made me a better practising Jew. It's a technique to make you a better you, whoever you are. Now my religion is more meaningful to me than ever before, because I have this technique to get even more in touch with my soul each and every day.
'Again, let me be perfectly clear. TM is not a religion and doesn't profess to ever be one, or to take the place of one. It is a technique for you to go inwards and find your soul, find your silence, find your bliss as a human being, and become the person God truly wants you to be.'
