The 27 May full moon celebration of the Global Mother Divine Organization* explored the theme of culture from the perspective of the total knowledge of Natural Law brought to light by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in his Vedic Science.
A highlight of the celebration was the video of a beautiful address Maharishi gave on 13 March 2006 to the inauguration of the Maharishi Parliament of World Peace in the field of culture and religion. The Parliament was one of a series held that year at the Brahmasthan [auspicious central point] of India.
Maharishi explained that like many branches emerging from the same trunk, all cultures and religions have the same root, so the same sap is in every branch. This is why we say Vasudhaiva kutumbakam, 'The whole world is my family.'
We are all interconnected, and the unity of life connects all the diversified religions and cultures of the world, Maharishi said. Culture and religion cannot be separated. The purpose of culture is to culture human life to perfection, and the purpose of religion is to rise to the realization of God.
Perfection means the realization of God, so culture and religion are really one and the same. Maharishi gave the complete Vedic knowledge of how these two realities of culture and religion can be raised to the level where they can achieve their high goals.
He explained that the reason culture and religion have not been able to achieve their goals is because something has been missing. In human life, all life is moving in the forward direction, the direction of the expansion of activity. What has been missing in life, he said, is the 'backward direction'—the direction of reconnecting to the source of all activity in the transcendental field, where total Natural Law, the Veda, the Will of God is available.
Every individual is cosmic, Maharishi said, but when we lose our connection with the source in the transcendental field, the field of Natural Law, then we forget our cosmic reality and we remain without perfection, without all possibilities. Then we are not able to enjoy life in its fullness.
This is the root of all problems in life, Maharishi said—this loss of our connection with the Totality of the Veda does not enable the culture to culture us to perfection, and does not enable religion to let us rise to the realization of God. When there is no connection to the inner reality, then life becomes weak and shadowed.
When the outer life is not in tune with the inner value of life, the source of life, then life is filled with problems. It should be part of the education in every part of the world to experience that level of reality, the transcendental field, the source of all activity, of all culture and religion—our own self-referral consciousness.
Maharishi said that by connecting with its source in the transcendental field, the field of Natural Law, culture will achieve its goal of bringing perfection to life, and religion will achieve its goal of bringing one to the realization of God—so that life will be lived in fulfilment, free of problems and suffering.
* 'Mother Divine' refers to the nourishing, evolutionary power of Natural Law lively within all of creation and within the silent consciousness of everyone. The Global Mother Divine Organization, established in December 2007, is the ladies' wing of the Global Country of World Peace.
