MERU, Holland—home of the International Capital of the Global Country of World Peace—has been chosen as one of 34 locations in the province of Limburg that are being featured for 'spiritual tourism'.

The Chamber of Commerce has found that more than 50 per cent of Dutch citizens are spiritually oriented and that this type of tourism results in a turnover of 12-16 million Euros, said Dr Gerard Rieter, who is focussing on 'meditation tourism' along with other leaders of the Global Country of World Peace in MERU.

The programmes of 34 organizations—including programmes of the Global Country of World Peace in MERU—will be featured in online and printed publications of the Chamber of Commerce.

They are developing a website linked to the national news service. News stories published by any of the organizations on the site will automatically be sent to the media—both newspapers and television, Dr Rieter said.

They have also prepared 5,000 copies of a booklet about the organizations and the first copy will be presented to a government minister on 16 April.

Since last January, MERU has already had 3,700 visitors attend weekly tours offered at the campus, Dr Rieter reported.

Now he and other leaders of the Global Country are preparing one-day and three-day programmes for tourists.

One-day programmes include spa treatments and other aspects of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care, as well as Maharishi Light Therapy with Gems and Maharishi VedAroma.

Those wishing to take advantage of the three-day packages can enjoy—among other programmes—learning the Transcendental Meditation Programme or participating in the Maharishi Corporate Development Programme.

Local hotels are eager to participate in offering tourists a relaxing spiritual holiday.

'It's a great joy that we can offer this . . . beautiful knowledge of unity, of enlightenment,' Dr Rieter said.

* Dr Rieter's report was featured on the 24 March 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
