12 December 2009
Dr David Lynch recently began a 10-day trip through India, during which he is gathering footage for his upcoming feature-length film on the life of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace.
Accompanying Dr Lynch on his India tour is Dr Robert Roth, Vice President of the David Lynch Foundation and National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, who reported about the first days of their travels on Maharishi Global Family Chat.*
On the first day, Dr Lynch travelled from Delhi to Uttarkashi, where he and Dr Roth first flew over the location where members of the Maharishi Purusha Programme reside, and then drove to the home where Maharishi lived for two years, 1953 - 1955, after the passing of his Master, Guru Dev.** There, Dr Lynch enjoyed practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the cave-like dwelling beneath the house where Maharishi spent much of his time deep in silence and meditation.
'Maharishi's inspiration in Uttarkashi was fully awake and lively,' remarked Dr Roth. The blissful feeling there, he said, 'seemed to reflect the current surge in Maharishi's programmes in the US and throughout the world.'
After spending a few days in Uttarkashi, Dr Lynch and Dr Roth were planning to travel to Jyotir Math in the Himalayas, the seat where Guru Dev was established as Shankaracharya.** Then, they will traverse India for seven to eight days, retracing Maharishi's journeys during the period 1955 - 1957, which he spent awakening his knowledge and programmes in India before coming to the West, including the United States.
'David Lynch is an extraordinary human being,' concluded Dr Roth, 'and I'm sure his film will play a transformative role in the world.'
* Dr Roth's report was featured on the 8 December 2009 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
** Guru Dev: His Divinity Brahmanand Saraswati, Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Himalayas, Maharishi's spiritual teacher. Guru Dev is honoured as the embodiment of Vedic wisdom closest to Maharishi in the illustrious tradition of Vedic Masters who have passed down the eternal wisdom of life from teacher to student since time immemorial.
