On 5 August 2009 Planet JH Weekly - Jackson Hole's free independent newspaper reported:
A chief of the Nebraska (US) Winnebago tribe supports the Transcendental Meditation Programme, highlighting its diverse benefits, particularly the reduction of stress, high blood pressure, and diabetes. He also emphasizes the importance of sustainable organic agriculture and green sources of energy.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of culture.
In collaboration with the David Lynch Foundation, the chief, Prosper Waukon, is sharing his knowledge about Transcendental Meditation, which he says can 'help alleviate problems . . . prevalent on Indian reservations', the article reported.
Waukon, who comes from a heritage of leadership, also believes in the necessity of sustainability. The article reported that he has launched a 'campaign for sustainability through organic farming, [as well as] wind and solar energy.'
He will discuss these initiatives at a free talk to be given at the Teton County Library, Monday 10 August at seven in the evening.
