Transcendental Meditation becoming 'mainstream' in Holland

As in many countries, Transcendental Meditation is becoming increasingly 'mainstream' in the Netherlands—an expression of rising invincibility in the nation, said Dr Paul Gelderloos, seen in growing public appreciation for the valuable contributions of meditation to many areas of life, including business and health.
Dr Gelderloos, who is National Director of the Global Country of World Peace in Holland, commented recently on this trend. 'Fortunately now Holland has been invincible for nearly two years,'* he said, and so 'we have a very fertile environment. We are finding there is now much more openness to Maharishi's knowledge, and that the collective consciousness of the country reflects more interest in such things as meditation. In Holland, one out of every three adults says he is a spiritual person.'
'Only two or three years ago,' Dr Gelderloos said, 'meditation was seen as something very abstract and vague. . . . We can see from this recent [Metro] article that the whole collective consciousness in Holland has changed and that there is more openness now.'
Metro Magazine, a free magazine handed out every morning in the stations, writes only about what is popular. Their recent article, 'Meditation at work is working', reported how a labour union is now promoting meditation in the workplace. The magazine also mentioned a study on people practising meditation at work, in which they reported they were more efficient, and felt more vital and physically stronger.
Dr Gelderloos has been very focused on bringing out all the knowledge and programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, inspired by Maharishi last year.
An article in the in-house business magazine of Cisco TelePresence about the Transcendental Meditation organization's development and use of the most advanced Cisco TelePresence system in the world, is another indication that meditation is increasingly accepted and popular in the Netherlands, Dr Gelderloos commented.
On the basis of the very large number of publications about meditation and health care—more than 800 publications in their database—a large alternative medicine website dubbed 2008 the 'Year of Meditation in Medicine'.
* The Invincible Holland Assembly, a large group participating in twice-daily group practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, was established in April 2006, to create coherence, harmony, and invincibility in national consciousness.
