26 June 2008
Speaking 17 June 2008 on Maharishi Global Family Chat, Dr Wolfgang Gied, National Director of Religion and Culture for the Global Country of World Peace in Germany, reported on Germany's second Weekend of Total Knowledge, which focused on the topic of religion and culture.
The Weekend of Total Knowledge, reported Dr Gied, took place several weeks ago in Erfurt, Germany, capital of the Thuringia province. The events began on a Friday evening, when participants spoke amongst themselves on topics related to Maharishi's description of seven states of consciousness. On Saturday morning, the group discussed correlations between German culture and Vedic culture, noting the ways in which German philosophers, musicians, artists, and scientists expressed facets of Vedic knowledge. Among the figures mentioned in this discussion was the 18th century German philosopher Immanuel Kant, whose metaphysical thought greatly influenced modern Europe, and Meister Eckhart, a 13th century German theologian and mystic.
On Saturday evening, continued Dr Gied, participants attended a concert by Rutger Steinfort, a well-known German concert pianist and Teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Technique. 'Steinfort integrated different composers into his concert, such as Beethoven and Schumann, on a very high level,' said Dr Gied, 'as well as describing his experience with Transcendental Meditation in relation to his music.' The concert, remarked Dr Gied, was a beautiful conclusion to the Weekend of Total Knowledge.
