In his address to the European Assembly of Founders of Invincibility, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace discusses different values in the Indian calendar, different Devatas in different locations, and the influences on the individual.
'Jai Guru Dev. Jai Guru Dev. Jai Guru Dev,' Maharishi began. '...It is very well known in India that there are seats, there are shrines of different Devatas [impulses of Natural Law]: all the five Devatas, one for Vishnu, one for Shiva, one for Surya, Ganapati, Devi. There are places of pilgrimage, and what our dear Doctor [Dr Satish Kumar] has expressed, what is the reason? . . .
'The days of pilgrimage are prescribed. In this month of the year, on this day of the month, in this shrine, in this shrine, days of visits are over, and when the days of visits are over—we have heard the insights of the doctor—I was so happy to hear there is a reason: there is a reason that the human brain, or human physiology, or human heart and human destiny is awakened on those days. They are the days of festivals, every day in India is a festival day, either dedicated to this Devata, or to this Devata, or to this Devata.
'And the reason must be—it's beyond our comprehension, it's beyond our intellect—the reason must be that the human life is made lively in the quality of that Devata, on that day, on that shrine.
'This is the Indian Calendar. In this month you go to Badrinath, in this month you go to this Devi Temple here. They are all decided. And we have not thought what it was; it is taken to be a requirement of the people. On the Ekadashi Day you dip in the Ganges, with Hara Gange, Hara Hara Maha Dev.
'In that month you go to that shrine of Shiva and that of Vishnu and that of Surya: [it is] a beautiful insight of a scientist to find the reason why it is so in the culture of India. Why is it so? There is an Indian Calendar, Panchang. The Indian Calendar specifies this is the month for this; one has to do this in this month, in Gaya, in this month in Rameshwaram.
'The days of pilgrimage are set and recorded by the Pandits, who bring out the Indian calendar of the year, and that shows that if a child is born on this day, according to Indian Calendar, this is going to his value, his value.
'All this huge field of knowledge was just indicated by the discovery of Maharaja Nader Raam, [first ruler of the Global Country of World Peace], and we are happy to have a thinker in the world, born in India, who got curious about this: a reason for a man born under these stars, they say, under these stars.
'It has its own language. It has its own language. Under these stars, a man born under these stars, and they come out to prescribe all that the man will do for his own life. [He's] born in this place, which has those stars, those Devatas, and the whole of his future is prescribed. It's beyond comprehension, because that is the knowledge where silence rules the world. Our programme of bringing the awareness of the world to that level of intelligence where everything is very well sorted out in the whole of the galactic world, and year after year, month after month, day after day, a man is born in this place, under these spells of creativity, Devata, Devata, Devata.
'The whole civilization of India is a record of the divine plan, and it is a continuous stream from millions of years in the past, and will continue to be so in the future, whether one is able to intellectually grasp it or not. But physiologically a man is under those influences all his life, and all that is mathematically calculated by the Pandits who make this Indian Calendar.
'Without going into the details, taking it to be a grand horoscope, the horoscope of a person. Horoscope of a country. When the country is born, when one invades the one country into the other, and the invaded country comes to his possession, horoscopes are made, that this is how the rule is going to be. This is how the rule is going to be.
'So knowing or not knowing. Somehow, under the grace of Guru Dev*, we are led to experiment, we are led to observe what is happening, what is happening, and we found that a few people in the world, practising Yogic Flying, they are good enough to create sufficient positivity in the whole national consciousness.
'What we are doing is—somebody has gone through the train of preparing, bringing sugar from here, bringing wheat from here and here and there. Somebody has gone through the different ingredients, and he has opened the shop of sweets. We go, we enjoy the sweets. We don't go through all the heat and cold and all that the cook has gone through. Like that, these are the traditions, not only in India, but everywhere throughout the world, in any corner here or there, or there, or there.
'But the knowledge is completely contained in the mathematical calculations of the destiny of a man born here, or here, or here, and the whole characteristic quality of him; he is under this pair of this Devata in this month, this Devata in this month, this Devata in this month. Otherwise it's not possible for every generation to create—it's impossible. It's not human creation. It's the Divine Will.
'It is what we call fortunately, under the instructions of Guru Dev, we call it to be government by silence. In one word, all this, the whole of this knowledge is compactified and rarefied, compactified and rarefied. Who knows it? Practitioners of Transcendental Meditation, they go beyond the limitations. They go to that unlimited, self-referral intelligence where everything is clear, everything is clear. How many what we call Devatas, are functioning in what way? It's completely clear to the cognizer of that level which is proclaimed by Vedic texts.'
