18 July 2013
Be-Japan Company, Ltd, is a corporate development division established three years ago in Japan, to bring the Transcendental Meditation programme to people in organizations throughout the country.
After the devasting earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011, Mr Kawai Yuji, CEO of Be-Japan, traveled to the damaged area and, together with his wife, taught Transcendental Meditation to 250 people. At a recent conference in the Netherlands, Mr Kawai reported that research conducted on a large group of refugees who learned the technique showed a dramatic reduction of all stress factors.
In 2012 Mr Kawai visited Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in the United States. While there he took a course on EEG (electroencephalographic) brain activity during Transcendental Meditation, taught by Dr Fred Travis, Dean of the Graduate School and Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition* at MUM. Mr Kawai decided to bring an EEG machine back to Japan, and used it to measure brain wave coherence in more than 60 people, including presidents of large Japanese corporations and university professors.
Being able to demonstrate the EEG results, he commented recently, is very useful in showing people the substantial increase in brain coherence that occurs during Transcendental Meditation.
Mr Kawai also worked on the Model of Vedic Physiology with Maharishi University of Management researcher and neuroscientist Dr Alarik Arenander, who developed a presentation titled The Individual is Cosmic, about the knowledge brought out in the landmark book, Human Physiology, Expression of Veda and the Vedic Literature by Professor Tony Nader, MD, PhD.
More than 80 people attended a workshop in leadership training, offered in Tokyo last June by Mr Fuji and Maharishi University of Management professor James Bagnola. Mr Bagnola, who recently earned his master's degree in Maharishi Vedic Science at MUM, is a corporate educator, international speaker, and executive coach. His book, Becoming a Professional Human Being: How to Enjoy Stress-Free Work and Personal Happiness Using the Mind/Body/Work Connection, was released in 2012.
Currently Mr Kawai is writing a book for business people in Japan who are looking for innovative ways to reduce employee stress and increase happiness and loyalty.
