'The Dr Oz Show' staff learn Transcendental Meditation

28 June 2013
After Dr. Mehmet Oz offered instruction in Transcendental Meditation to the entire production team of his Emmy Award-winning The Dr. Oz Show, some of his top producers described their reactions and experiences with the technique.
See related article: Dr. Oz and his TV production team describe personal and corporate benefits of Transcendental Meditation.
Some mentioned being drawn to Transcendental Meditation because of its practical benefits in reducing stress and improving productivity, and its simplicity and ease of practice.
''Dr. Oz said that he was going to bring Transcendental Meditation to the office for us,'' said Michele Wasserman, Supervising Producer of Post for The Dr. Oz Show. ''He said that because he was doing it, he was actually becoming more efficient.
''That was really appealing to me, and also the idea that it wasn't going to be something that I thought it was before, like this sort of spiritual epiphany—that it was really more about stress release.
''In times of great stress, I would often start using food to kind of quell the nervousness and the anxiety, and I haven't done that since I started meditating,'' Ms. Wasserman said.
Several people described trying other forms of meditation in the past, without good results. ''I tried meditation where I'm told you're supposed to clear your mind, and have a blank mind, and it never worked for me,'' said Walter Kenny, Field Coordinator for The Dr. Oz Show. ''I would just give up on it, because I didn't understand. But with Transcendental Meditation it's just so much easier.''
After learning Transcendental Meditation, he said, ''I noticed I was much calmer and I was able to get to sleep a lot earlier, and that's just paid off through the day—I can concentrate more, I can get more done, and I'm just easier to get along with.''
Field Producer Cathy Daniel described a similar experience: ''What I've come to realize is if I do it, I just feel better—I feel like I have this force field around me, and things just kind of bounce off me easier.''
Global Good News will continue to feature highlights of benefits Dr. Oz and his staff have found from practicing Transcendental Meditation.
