Economic experts say that increased creativity and innovation are two main driving forces behind the improved economy in much of Latin America.
Teachers of Transcendental Meditation relate region-wide advances in innovation and creativity to increasing numbers of people practising the meditation technique in many Latin American countries. News of quantum leaps in innovation parallels the rapid expansion of Transcendental Meditation-related projects, for example in schools, businesses, and the military, with a resulting rise in social coherence and creativity spreading throughout the fabric of society, teachers say.
One teacher noted a principle brought out by Transcendental Meditation founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, that the progress of a nation is related to the level of innovation and the application of creativity in the intelligentsia of a country.
Traditionally, developed nations in Europe and North America have been leaders in innovation, but in the last few years, Latin America has been coming out with more and more discoveries and innovations in social, political, economic, and cultural fields.
'The innovation in Latin America is not related only to special technologies, but to [good] living, a concept of how to live better in every area of life. . . ,' the Transcendental Meditation teacher said. 'There is lively creativity developing which is related to the economic growth of Latin America.'
He explained that five or ten years ago, there was a high level of extreme poverty in Latin America. Countries such as Bolivia and Cuba 'didn't even have basic schools'. But poverty has decreased by one-third since then. 'Now everyone goes through proper education.'
A statement by the United Nations noted that innovation and education have undergone a real change in the region. This has resulted in an improvement in the dignity of life of the people.
'There are so many innovations and creative solutions in these areas,' the teacher said. 'It is a very good example of improvement in quality of life—and improvement in quality of life is close to the effect of coherence' in collective consciousness, produced by large numbers of people practising Transcendental Meditation.
