Two lectures—'Sustainable Capitalism' and 'The Future of the Family Farm and Rural Communities'—by Dr John Ikerd will be presented 9 and 10 December in Dalby Hall at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, as well as in the town of Fairfield.
Dr Ikerd is the author of four books on sustainability, economics, and agriculture, including Crisis and Opportunity, Sustainability in American Agriculture and Sustainable Capitalism. He is a professor at the University of Missouri, where he received his PhD in Agriculture Economics. Commenting on Dr Ikerd's work, Robert F Kennedy, Jr, said, 'For years, John Ikerd's writings and speeches have provided precious insights into the economics of this nation's food system.'
Maharishi University of Management is the first university in the United States to offer both a B.S. in Sustainable Living and an MBA in Sustainability degree programme. The university has already undertaken many sustainability initiatives.
The new home for Maharishi University of Management's Sustainable Living programme—America's first off-the-grid
zero-energy campus building—is now under construction according to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, Vedic architecture in complete accord with Natural Law.
In an article carried by Forbes, BusinessWeek, MSNBC, and other national news media, The Associated Press described the M.U.M. building as 'the ultimate green building'.
