'What you see you become' - Quantum measurement theory explains how individual coherence can transform society

Following enquires from Denmark and Argentina into the mechanics of how coherent individual consciousness can create a positive influence on collective consciousness, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi recently gave a beautiful explanation drawing on principles from Vedic Science. He asked members of the Purusha* group to explain this phenomenon in terms of their personal experiences of rising to higher states of consciousness. (Please see Part I and Part II: Maharishi speaks to Purusha—4 September and 7 September 2007 respectively.) Maharishi then requested Dr John Hagelin, Minister of Science and Technology of the Global Country of World Peace, to explain in terms of quantum mechanics.

Dr Hagelin began his discussion by drawing from a simple and profound principle of Maharishi's Vedic Science which demonstrates how a total transformation of civilization can be brought about which will raise individual life and the life of the whole society to Raam Raj—eternal invincibility.

'That simple profound principle . . . is, ''what you see, you become''. (Yoga Sutras 1:4)

' ''What you see, you become''. We know this principle from quantum mechanics today. . . In the past it was all about the system being observed. A quantum mechanical system, like an electron or an atom—it was all about the wave function of the atom and the electron, and the evolution of that wave function.

'But how is the wave function known? How do we know anything there is to know about a thing? That deep analysis is a very Vedic analysis, and it is a subject of quantum measurement theory. In quantum measurement theory the only possible way of understanding how knowledge is gained of an object, how the qualities of objects are known by the experimentalists, and (how) the experimentalist too (is known), must be considered to be on the quantum mechanical level.

'These two wave functions—the wave function of the electron and the wave function of the observer—must be viewed as one wave function, because quantum mechanics allows no duality . . . because the equations of the evolution of a quantum system are always a unified description of evolution. Because quantum mechanics allows no diversity, the knower and the known must be one.

'The two-way function of the two systems—the observer and the observed—becomes coupled in one completely unified system . . . the evolution of a single completely unified entity, so that Rishi and Chhandas become united through Devata to be one Samhita. (Maharishi's Vedic Science defines Rishi as the observer (knower), Devata as the process of observation (knowing), Chhandas as the object of observation (known), and Samhita as the wholeness or togetherness of Rishi, Devata, and Chhandas.)

'What you see you become. What you see you become. And in Maharishi's Vedic Technology (Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme including Yogic Flying), through the grace of Guru Dev**, what do we see? To what do we regularly take our attention again and again and again? We take our attention to the immortal, to the eternal, to the invincible, to the immutable, to the Apaurusheya—the uncreated. That is the level of cosmic administration, that is the level of nature's own invincibility, nature's own immortality.

'The equations that govern the Unified Field are beyond reference to time, they are manifestly time-translationally invariant, they are manifestly beyond the reach of time. So when we see time as timeless, imperishable, immutable, immortal, invincible; we become timeless, imperishable, immortal, invincible, immutable. We become it through the quantum principle of ''what you see, you become'', through the Vedic principle, ''what you see, you become''.

'And this is the secret of Maharishi Central University. This is the secret of the transformation of the entire civilization. Because every individual, through the grace of Guru Dev, sees something which is not foreign to themselves—their own immortal, unbounded, eternal Purusha—their own immortal, unbounded, imperishable, immutable Self. They see that through Consciousness-Based Education. They see that through Maharishi's Unified Field-Based Education . . . and seeing that, they become that. And in our TM Programme, we see that repeatedly and we become that . . . we become the administrator of the universe.

'We become the immortal administrator of the universe. This is how the whole civilization—from individual to society—is automatically transformed through this simple principle of quantum measurement theory, 'what you see, you become'. And we know this immortal, imperishable field is the field of invincibility, because it is millions of times more fundamental and more powerful than the nuclear force. This explains why even a handful of Yogic Flyers, a handful of Purusha, can transform the whole civilization. Through the grace of Guru Dev, we are using the mind at that unbounded level of absolute power, of absolute invincibility of natural law. We have seen that. We become that. (Here Dr Hagelin uses 'that' to indicate the Self which is Totality, wholeness.)

'Everyone else from society . . . what they see, what they do, has so little consequence in the future of the world. But every Purusha, every Yogic Flyer, has enormous consequence and is of enormous consequence to the future of human kind, because every single one is functioning at a level of natural law which is millions of times more powerful than the nuclear force. They are functioning from the fountainhead of the laws governing the vast universe, from the field of immortality, from the field of invincibility. This is the field that quietly administers the universe without becoming anything. The Unified Field is all that there is. The Unified Field administers by being, it does not become anything. A notion—Vivartvad—of becoming, is all that there is.

'Because the Unified Field is all that there is, flowing within itself (are) all the diverse particles and forces that uphold the universe. But the Fock Space Representation Equation shows us explicitly that all those particles and forces of nature that uphold the atom, that uphold the molecule, that uphold all macroscopic objects, that uphold galaxies and clusters of galaxies, that uphold the ever-expanding universe—all those laws of nature, all those particles and forces—are nothing but the self-interacting dynamics of unity. It is just a Vivartvad, it is just a transformation in appearance, but there is no transforming, there is no becoming, there is only Being (Self). So Being administers the universe by Being, and that is the level of invincibility. There is nothing to change, nothing to achieve, nothing to do that hasn't been done.

'So the secret of invincibility, the secret of total transformation of the individual and society, the secret of Maharaja Nader Raam, (Ruler of the Global Country of World Peace) and his global administration, the secret of Maharishi Central University, is 'what you see, you become'. It is the most advanced theory of quantum measurement theory and (at the same time) the most ancient principle of Maharishi's Vedic Science of consciousness.

'What you see, you become. And what do we see at Maharishi Central University? What do we see in our TM Programme every day? What do we become? The immortal, the invincible, the immutable, the eternal, the field of immortality, the Constitution of the Universe. That we see and that we therefore become, and that is the total transformation of individual life that raises every individual at a single stroke to the level of Raam Raj, to the level of Vedic Vishwa Prashanam individually, and societally, the same, absolutely the same.

'In fact it takes very few individuals (whose thought and action is spontaneously in accord with all the laws of nature through Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhi Programme) to transform the whole society, because of the power of natural law at the super-unified scale, because of the power of Purusha, the power of the Constitution of the Universe is millions of times more powerful even than the nuclear force. So that is what we are celebrating today. The capability to globally transform the entire world with ease, to transform every individual with ease, is in the most profound and simple principle of automatic transformation, ''what you see, you become''. And what do we see? The immortality—the Constitution of the Universe, the immutable, the invincible. That is what we see, and that is what we become individually, and with our collective power, that is what the whole world becomes.

'So whether the Lord Mayor of Argentina, or the Raja (Administrator) of Denmark, the answer everywhere is the same: what we see we become. And what do we see through the grace of Guru Dev? We see the immortal, eternal Constitution of the Universe, the field of immortality, so we become that field of immortality, and collectively create an invincible world. Jai Guru Dev.'

*Purusha: Purusha are single men devoted to a programme carefully designed by Maharishi for those who wish to dedicate themselves fully to the most rapid pace of evolution possible and creating world peace.
