Maharishi University of Vedic Medicine is offering New Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree Programmes in Maharishi Vedic Medicine

Become an expert in the most advanced prevention-oriented and natural healthcare system

Has your Medical Doctor or Naturopath ever prescribed a medical treatment for your headache, insomnia, high blood pressure, or other ailment which incorporated mind (consciousness), body, and environment, and which enlivened all the Laws of Nature?

Well, for one thing, it's not a part of a doctor's or naturopath's usual medical training. There is no school for natural medicine in the world that offers comprehensive knowledge and training in natural systems of health care and fundamentals of modern medicine which are based on approaches of consciousness and enliven mind, body, behaviour, and environment.

That's all about to change.

Maharishi University of Vedic Medicine in Switzerland is offering new Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. This is a new private university offering a natural health care system based on consciousness that will train students and medical professionals to practice integrative medicine with the fundamentals of conventional medical diagnosis and treatment, along with the most effective practices of natural medicine—Maharishi Vedic Medicine.

Maharishi Vedic Medicine represents the full value of Ayurveda and all other Vedic approaches to health as revived by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It is often referred to as Maharishi Ayurveda.

'This will be the first university in the world to train students in the most advanced knowledge, technologies, and practices of natural and traditional systems of medicine, particularly Maharishi Ayurveda, along with fundamentals of modern medicine,' says Robert Schneider, MD, director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention and Advisory Faculty of Maharishi University of Vedic Medicine. 'Patients will benefit by receiving the most effective and side effect-free health care available anywhere in the world today.'

Over the past 20 years, Dr Schneider, along with his colleagues at Maharishi University of Management and collaborators around the country, have received more than (US)$24 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health in support of their research on the effects of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Maharishi Ayurveda for preventing and treating cardiovascular disease and other chronic disorders.

An Urgent Need

It is well known that modern medicine's costly drugs and invasive procedures often produce serious and harmful side effects. These hazards are documented by thousands of articles published in medical journals by leading doctors and medical researchers. In fact, modern medicine is now the third leading cause of death, after cardiovascular disease and cancer. So it is not a surprise that more than 50% of the population takes advantage of some form of complementary or alternative medicine. There is an urgent need for a complete holistic and consciousness-based training in a natural health care system.

A Ground-breaking Institution

Maharishi University of Vedic Medicine will be the first of its kind in the field of natural medical education. The curriculum is organized around the study of the eight major organ systems of the body. Each system is examined from the perspective of Maharishi Ayurveda, which takes into account all the factors that influence health—including mind, body, and environment—many of which are not usually considered by modern and natural medicine.

During the first year, students will focus on the structure, function, and development of the body and its source in the Unified Field of Natural Law along with courses in Ayurveda. Year two is dedicated to prevention, health, and the causes of disease as understood by Ayurvedic medicine, modern medicine, and other traditional systems of health care. The third year covers diagnosis and treatment of common disorders, with emphasis on primary care. The third year also includes diagnosis and treatment of severe and chronic stages of disease, all taught in the light of Ayurvedic medicine and modern medicine.

All students will learn about a wide range of natural medical systems, such as traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy, naturopathy, osteopathy, chiropractic, and information and energy medicine. They'll be introduced to therapeutic approaches using the five senses, including aroma therapy, light and colour therapy, gem therapy, water therapy, music and dance therapy.

After graduation students will undergo a one-year supervised internship in a Maharishi Ayurveda Clinic or setting.

Graduate students can gain expertise in modern medical specialties in light of Ayurveda, such as internal medicine, cardiology, pediatrics and family medicine, psychiatry and neurology, and geriatrics and anti-ageing medicine, and will be trained to operate a Maharishi Ayurveda Clinic (offering natural purification programmes known as Panchakarma).
