Venezuela mends tie with Paraguay, reopens embassy

ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) - Venezuela has reopened its embassy in the Paraguayan capital 18 months after breaking off relations to protest the removal of Paraguay's leader.

The Venezuelan Embassy in Asuncion was closed in July 2012 after Paraguay's congress impeached and ousted President Fernando Lugo, who was an ally of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

The embassy reopened Monday.

Venezuelan Ambassador Afredo Murga says Paraguay's agricultural commodities are vital to Venezuela. He says the economies of both South American countries can continue to complement each other.

Venezuela has the world's biggest oil reserves. Paraguay doesn't produce oil and is expected to benefit from improved links with the region's biggest oil exporter.
