San Franciso, California, United States
3 July 2004
On 3 July 2004 San Francisco Chronicle reported:
US: Promoters of sustainable agriculture encourage a holistic approach to farming for the health and well-being of the individual and the environment.
Global Good News service views this news as a sign of rising positivity in the field of environment, documenting the growth of life-supporting, evolutionary trends.
Sustainable agriculture not only deals with the production and purchase of organic fruits and vegetables, but encourages food to be obtained locally and in season. It is concerned with the health of the whole environment including the well-being of the farmer. In this system, farmers are expected to pay their workers adequately, develop self-sustaining systems for soil improvements, seed, fuel, and packaging materials, and monitor the effect of the systems on the environment.
Fred Kirschenmann, director of a research and education center said: 'You have to rethink agriculture. It's a different way to farm and it forces you to work with, to cooperate with, nature. You become a much better student of nature, and that changes people. You begin to recognize that we really do become the water we drink, and the air we breathe, and the food we eat; that we're not separate from nature.'
The director of an ecology center, Don Henson, says that politicians need to be pressured into promoting environmentally friendly farm practices. Another professional advocate of sustainable farming, Kenny Ausubel, feels that environmentally destructive agriculture is mostly due to governmental subsidies. He points out, that in Europe, sustainable agriculture is becoming a common policy.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
