Maharishi School Director enlightens Scottish educators - Part I
TM News, UK Translate This Article
15 June 2007
Dr Ashley Deans, Director of the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, Fairfield, USA, recently completed a highly successful visit to Scotland to promote the introduction of Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Education there.
Below is a summary of the achievements of this visit, which was widely publicized to Scottish educators, the media, and the public by David Rae and his team of dedicated Governors [Teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme] in Scotland.
It is with pleasure that England and Wales will also be welcoming Dr Deans in October of this year, to promote Consciousness-Based Education in these countries too. He may also tour Scotland and Northern Ireland a second time, to consolidate progress made so far.
The objectives of this tour were to promote the establishment of Maharishi Invincibility Schools in Scotland, as well as to promote the introduction of Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying into existing schools.
With the support of Raja Peter Warburton, PhD, the Governors in Glasgow and Edinburgh prepared thoroughly for several weeks, producing excellent promotional materials.
The week began with a press conference, which attracted journalists from two of the three leading news media of Scotland: BBC Scotland and the Scotsman newspaper. These two journalists spoke with Dr Deans for 45 minutes and took away a press information pack.
The Herald in Glasgow had already agreed to carry a feature and this was published on 23 April. Chess grandmaster and Herald columnist, Jonathan Rowson, tells his own story of learning Transcendental Meditation and concludes his very favourable three-quarter-page article with: 'I hope that at least one courageous school gives consciousness-based education a try. I expect it to be a huge success.'
A short piece advertising the series of conferences also appeared in Edinburgh's Evening News and interest was expressed by the Sunday Post.
