MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's total spices exports in October of fiscal 2009/10 was up 27 percent in volume terms led by a surge in exports of small cardamom, chilli, ginger and turmeric among others, the Spices Board said on Thursday.
Spices export during October stood at 41,585 tonnes, compared with 32,650 tonnes a year ago, it said in a statement.
Small cardamom exports rose to 200 tonnes in October 2009 from 50 tonnes in the same period a year earlier while chilli exports rose 70 percent to 18,500 tonnes.
Total exports climbed 9 percent in value to 5.06 billion rupees during the period.
Export gains were capped by spices such as pepper, vanilla, fennel and mint products, the Spices Board said.
'Pepper exports have been weak as Brazil is quoting at a discount to Indian prices and will only improve after the Brazilian harvest comes to an end this month,' said an analyst with a Delhi-based brokerage.
